Facebook ‘sex chats’ blamed for one in five divorces

Posted on Thursday, December 24th, 2009 by Ali Johnson

facebook I saw this article "Facebook 'sex chats' blamed for one in five divorces" in the Daily Mail all about Facebook being blamed for a rise in divorces.  After my reading and studying of Facebook recently, I was struck by this and realise that one of the dangers of Facebook is that you can take away boundaries and allow for much more of a hidden conversation. When you don't see people reactions you can create a different persona because you don't see uncomfortableness or embarrassment. You are connect in away that has never been seen before. This danger is being lived out by so many people. I wonder what we can ...

Monday with…Mike Yaconelli

Posted on Monday, December 14th, 2009 by Ali Johnson

Mike Yaconelli (July 24, 1942 — October 30, 2003) was a writer, theologian, church leader and satirist. I love this quote has to be one of favourites "We have lost our astonishment. The Good News is no longer good news, it is okay news. Christianity is no longer life changing, it is life enhancing. Jesus doesn’t change people into wild-eyed radicals anymore, He changes them into ‘nice people’. But radical Christianity wasn’t nice; it was category-smashing, life-threatening, anti-institutional; it spread like wildfire throughout the 1st century and was considered by those in power to be dangerous. ‘I want to be filled with an astonishment which is so captivating that I am considered wild and unpredictable and … well … dangerous’. I want to ...

secondlifeFor those of you that haven’t heard of Second Life before, it is a virtual world where you can explore and do anything you desire, from scuba diving to exploring the moon and even owning your own nightclub all from the comfort of your own home.  You are able to take on any persona you wish in Second Life, many people use it to escape their real lives and become the person they have always dreamed of being. The only problem with having a world where you can live out your deepest desires though is that not all desires are good ones; it is well known that a lot of people use ...

The Meteoric Rise Of Facebook

Posted on Tuesday, December 8th, 2009 by Ali Johnson

Facebook Stats So I am have been reading 'The Church of Facebook' recently (will blog about this later I am sure) and am struck by the meteoric rise of Facebook. Its phenomenal to think that this social network platform didn't exist  5 years ago and now it seems to influence the whole of cultural understanding. This graph tracks the rise that has taken place over that time. Not sure we have seen as worldwide remarkable 'community' growth since, the early church (as I heard someone say).

Monday with D. James Kennedy

Posted on Monday, December 7th, 2009 by Ali Johnson

D. James Kennedy was a pastor, TV presenter, theologian and founder of a seminary. I found this quote a year or so ago and have mused over it for a while now. D. James Kennedy "The truth is: had Jesus never been the born the world would be a far more miserable than it is. In fact, many of man's noblest and kindest deeds find their motivation in love for Jesus Christ; and some our greatest accomplishments also have their origin in service rendered to the humble Carpenter of  Nazareth." D. James Kennedy Here we see James Kennedy questioning what the world would look like without Jesus and our Christology. Let me ...
