The Jesus Creed

Posted on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 by Ali Johnson

We have confidence in Jesus Who healed the sick, the blind, and the paralyzed. And even raised the dead. He cast out evil powers and Confronted corrupt leaders. He cleansed the temple. He favored the poor. He turned water into wine, Walked on water, calmed storms. He died for the sins of the world, Rose from the dead, and ascended to the Father, Sent the Holy Spirit. We have confidence in Jesus Who taught in word and example, Sign and wonder. He preached parables of the kingdom of God On hillsides, from boats, in the temple, in homes, At banquets and parties, along the road, on beaches, in towns, By day and by night. He taught the way of love for God and neighbor, For stranger and enemy, for outcast and alien. We have confidence in Jesus, Who called disciples, led them, Gave ...

Monday with… Dallas Willard

Posted on Monday, February 15th, 2010 by Ali Johnson

Today I am going to take a quote from. Dallas Willard. He is an American philosophy professor and author born in Buffalo, Missouri. His work in philosophy has been primarily in phenomenology, particularly the work of Edmund Husserl. His more popular work has been in the area of Christian spiritual formation, within the various expressions of historic Christian orthodoxy. I came across his work as he was my previous boss Bruce Hoplers' mentor. Check this out, its taken from a book called Hearing God. "The test of character posed by the gentleness of God's approach to us is especially dangerous for those formed by the ideas that ...

Monday with…Alan Hirsch and Michael Frost

Posted on Monday, February 8th, 2010 by Ali Johnson

Today I am going to take a quote from a book that I have been reading for a while now called Re Jesus. Amidst all the latest fads and "movements" within contemporary Christianity in the West, Frost and Hirsch's "ReJesus" is a clarion call to recalibrate our lives to the one that gathered us together and sent us out in the first place - Jesus. I love this quote and think its a worthwhile read if you want to get back to the our first love and invite Jesus into every area of lives. In their own words, "this book is dedicated to the recovery of the absolute centrality of the ...

Book Review- Brennan Manning, A Glimpse of Jesus: the Stranger to Self Hatred

Posted on Wednesday, January 27th, 2010 by Ali Johnson

This book is a gem, 145 pages of pure love, trust, gratitude and faith in Jesus. I was struck by how much this book spoke into my life when I read it. It gives you a glimpse of Jesus’ heart and his pure, rentless love towards His people. This book defines self-hatred as the reason that so many Christian struggle with the constant unrelenting love of Abba. By clearly understanding and grappling with the life and teachings of Jesus we can understand and grapple with the real and true saviour. And then be truly changed and transformed. In the astonishing chapter entitled ‘Jesus: The Stranger to Self-Hatred’ we see Manning grapple with ...

Reading The Bible In a Year Update…

Posted on Thursday, January 21st, 2010 by Ali Johnson

My spiritual mentor has been telling me for years now to read the bible in a year. He tells me its a great discipline and a great way to read and grapple with parts of the bible that I may never have read before. Here is your 21 day update. 3 weeks in and I am thinking why haven't I done this before. I have been amazed at how much reading the bible everyday can help make you so much more aware of God. So much more aware of what God has been doing in this world. I wonder if we sometimes are too afraid of being disciplined  in our culture because it leads us back to the days of ...

Friday Friend…It’s the Start of the Weekend.

Posted on Friday, January 15th, 2010 by Anna Frame

Hey guys... yes it is that time again. It’s Friday and almost the weekend...wooohooo!!! I didn’t really know what to tell or talk to you guys about because I am not really the most deep empowering person... in fact I am normally the one on the other side of the empowering. I was watching the Blue Planet the other day and the first five minutes of the first episode was about the blue whale. Did you know that the blue whale: measures 30 metres and weighs 200 tonnes. Its heart is the size of a small car, its tough weighs the same as an elephant and it tail fluke is the ...
